The city of West Hollywood is a fairly new city in the Los Angeles County of California that was only incorporated in 1984. Some of its renowned districts include the Sunset Strip and Melrose, known for its restaurants and nightlife.
With a highly radical-minded population, West Hollywood is one of the first cities to adopt the green building ordinance, and they regularly pass ordinances geared towards reducing discrimination and promoting public health. They also believe in upholding the dignity of all living beings, and thus they were the first city to pass into law the prohibition of de-clawing cats. They also created a law that pets should be called “companions”, while their owners should be referred to as “guardians.” West Hollywood has been witness to numerous celebrity exploits. The Chateau Marmont, in particularly has been immortalized in a quote from a 1930s movie executive that said “If you must get into trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont.” Chateau Marmont is where famous comedian John Belushi died of a drug overdose. Meanwhile, Christian Slater famously led police on a drunken car chase which ended only when he ran into a telephone post.
