One of the best destinations to enjoy and have fun with the beautiful landscape and beaches is the State of Hawaii. In this state, one of the popular spots to enjoy and be entertained while vacationing is Honolulu, the state’s capital located in the Oahu Island. This city is the southernmost big city in the nation. The population of this city as of 2010, is 337,256.
Being the state capital, Honolulu is the hub for the economic growth of the state as the major companies and organizations are located here. Even though the city is part of an island, it also features great colleges and universities offering diverse study programs.
Culture and traditions are very rich in this state. The oldest symphony orchestra in the United States was formed here and is still active. This is the Honolulu Symphony that was founded way back in 1900. Aside from that, one other classical musical ensembles stationed in this city is the Hawaii Opera Theatre.
Honolulu is very popular and well-known as the musical center for Hawaiian music. There are many entertainment and concert venues in this state and world class performers have performed here. Examples of these music venues are the Neal Blasidell Center, Waikiki Shell and Hawaii Theatre.
The Neal S. Blaisdell Center is located in the downtown area of the city. This multi-purpose complex is comprised of a globally well-known concert hall, arena, galleria, exhibition hall and conference rooms. The Concert Hall can accommodate 2,158 spectators. This is the home of the Hawaii Opera Theatre and the Honolulu Symphony. This Concert Hall also served as the venue for huge Broadway performances such as Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and many more.
On the other hand, the Arena portion of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center can accommodate 7,700 up to 8,800 (depending on the use) spectators and served as the venue for major sporting events and mostly for concerts. American Idol contestants have performed here as well as the Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
If you are familiar with the quote “Aloha from Hawaii”, this is where it was born from the numerous sold out concerts of the late Elvis Presley. Several other concerts are held here regularly from the modern music artists and performers.
