Newark, Essex County’s county seat, is also considered as the largest city within the state of New Jersey. In addition to this, it is also ranked as the 67th most populated city in the USA. Prudential Center, a famous venue within central business area of the city of Newark, was opened to the public in 2007. This multi-purpose arena, designed by Morris Adjimi Architects and HOK Sport, is the current home to several sports teams such as the Men’s Basketball Team Seton Hall Pirates, and the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League. This famous arena is able to accommodate about 18,711 spectators during basketball games and approximately 17,625 spectators during hockey games. To date, the arena has played host to a variety of sports events as well as other events such as live concerts, competitions, rallies and many others.
Another venue located within the downtown area of Newark is the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Considered as one of the largest performing arts venues within the United States of America, this venue was first made open to the public in 1997. It is also the home of the famous New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and has been visited by millions of locals and tourists from the time it first opened. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is home to several venue places which include the Horizon Theater, the Chase Room, the Victoria Theatre and the Prudential Hall. The Prudential Hall, in particular, can accommodate approximately 2,800 people and features orchestra seating, boxes and tiers which is shaped like a horseshoe. Some of the events held in the center include the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival and America’s Got Talent.
