The picturesque and fun city of Seattle, Washington is the home of the Seattle Seahawks. This football club is one of the professional teams that joined the National Football League (NFL) after the merger of NFL and its rival, the AFL. The team was established in 1976 and played as an expansion team together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team started in the West division of the National Football Conference, a subdivision of the NFL. In the following year of their existence, they were moved to the West division of the American Football Conference. They belonged to this conference until 2001. They were moved back again to their original conference in 2002. Because of this, the Seattle Seahawks is the only team in NFL that became part of both conferences.

The name of the team, the Seahawks, was basically given by the thousands of contestants who submitted their idea for the unnamed Seattle football team way back in 1975. One of the best features that provide excitement in watching the Seattle Seahawks play ball games is that they have the loudest as well as the most raucous fans. In fact, the first number the team has retired is dedicated to the avid fans of the Seattle Seahawks and this is the number 12.

The Seattle Seahawks, in their less than four decades in the league, can be considered a contender based on their success in the 1980s and in the 2000s in which they appeared 11 times in the playoffs. In those playoff appearances, they became division title holders seven times and one-time conference champion. Some of the players who became part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame are the following: Franco Harris, Steve Largent, Carl Eller, Warren Moon, John Randle, Jerry Rice and Cortez Kennedy. Currently, the Owner and Chairman of the Seattle Seahawks is Paul Allen. Peter McLoughlin is the current CEO of the team with John Schneider as the General Manager and Pete Carroll as the head coach.
