A long time ago, when the internet and movies were not yet invented, there was Annie, the little girl who became the central character of a Broadway musical. Eventually, the show became a hit and Annie became a household name. Years later, and even in this digital age, people still remembers Annie. In fact, Annie, the musical keeps on rising and enticing audiences of all ages and nationalities to go back in time and take the adventure.

As the story goes, and Annie is an 11-year old orphan who decided to find her parents and escape from the uncomfortable life in the orphanage. The setting was in 1933 and story was a series of twists and thrills as the plot suggest. No wonder that when it was first shown in 1977, Annie became the longest running show at Alvin Theatre in midtown Manhattan. It ended on January 1983 after more than 2,000 performances while audiences keep wailing for more. That’s why for the years that followed, theatre companies gave in to the demands and started bringing Annie across the United States. It even went outside the US territory and tour European countries including the United Kingdom. Yet twenty years later by 1997, the show was further revived and promoted using modern ways of marketing. Hence, it also initiated intrigues among its cast and even the way the show is handled. Somehow it keeps Annie and her audiences alive for is it not that her story are laden with controversies and power plays?

Today, Annie remains as one of the most popular Broadway shows. It continues running annually while producers continue to entice kids and the whole family. Across the world, different versions of Annie exist, some with emphasis on different art forms such as dance, lighting and music. Various interpretations of the story give life to unique stage productions and also theatre surprises. This simply means that Annie is here to stay for a much longer time.
