Purdue Boilermakers
“What is in the name of Purdue Boilermakers?” is probably the first question you will ask. The Boilermakers is the athletic teams of no other than Purdue University located in West Lafayette, Indiana. The interesting name of the team was inspired by a news headline published in 1891 to refer to how engineering students work like boiler makers and blacksmiths. Soon, the name stuck as other media agencies used the name to refer to the burly and menacingly built and strong game of Boilermakers’ football team.
The Purdue Boilermakers or simply Boilers as students call it is consisted of several sports program like football, basketball, baseball, cross country, field hockey, gold, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field volleyball and wrestling. The Boilers appeared in the Rose Bowl playoffs nine times and forever engraved their contributions in the Hall of Fame wall of Pro Football with the names of Len Dawson, Mike Phipps, Bob Griese, Mark Hermann, Gary Danielson, John Everett Scoot Campbell, and many more.
The Boilers’ baseball team also landed two Conference championships, while enjoying a very flourishing career in basketball both for men and women. Accordingly, men’s basketball team won 22 Conference titles, two NCAA Final Four and others; while the women’s team landed one NCCA championship title, three NCAA Final Four, seven Conference championships and more other awards. Boilers also excelled in the game of golf wherein the men’s team landed 10 Conference titles, one NCAA team championships and two individual championships.
