Minnesota Vikings Biography:
The Minnesota Vikings are one of the most prestigious American football teams, known for having a consistently high winning percentage in the entire National Football League (NFL). They are one of the six teams to have constantly won at least fifteen games in one season. They initially started as a Western Conference Central Division team in the NFL but were later shifted to the Central Division of the NFC. Now they are a part of the NFC’s North Division.
The team first entered the league back in 1960 but they didn’t get to play until the 1961 season opened. From their first game to 1982 the Vikings home stadium was the Metropolitan Stadium, located in the suburban area of Bloomington. From 1982 onwards they had moved on to the Mall of America Field at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, which is located in Minneapolis. 2012 has seen a new bill passed and the team will have a new stadium home expected to be opened and functional by the 2016 NFL season.
The Minnesota Vikings have garnered one NFL Championship and this was during the 1969 season right before the NFL acquired and merged with the AFL. Despite having some of the highest winning standards in the NFL they have never won another championship. They have made it to the play-offs 24 times, the third highest number of times in the entire NFL, but have never made it to the top. They have participated in the Super Bowl four separate times, (Super Bowl IV, VIII, IX, XI) but lost each one. Despite all this they also have eleven players who have been inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Vikings have seen several rivalries throughout the years, the most recent being the misdirection the Vikings have encountered in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. They have also seen tough rivalry with the most notable being their feuds against the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers, and the Detroit Lions.
