Inspired by real life accounts, Million Dollar Quartet circles around one memorable day at Sun Record recording studio in Memphis. It was December 4, 1956 when Presley, Lewis, Cash, and Perkins came together for a recording session that will later be known as one of the most celebrated jam sessions of all time. It was the first and only time that they were brought together as they sang many of their singles such as “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Hound Dog”, “Matchbox”, “Fever”, “Walk the Line”, “Great Balls of Fire”, “Who Do You Love?”, “Folsom Prison Blues”, “That’s All Right”, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, and “Sixteen Tons” among many others.
Everything was a spur-of-the-moment thing because nobody planned the session. It was a classic case of being at the right place and at the right moment. The four music industry giants just felt like collaborating that afternoon and as they say, the rest is history. The owner of Sun Records, Sam Philips recognized that the opportunity will turn out to be larger than life and publicity was given just one day after. The famous recording session spawned a number of albums that many fans all over the world eagerly patronized.
The Million Dollar Quartet proved to be a great inspiration and material that’s why it is not surprising that it was transformed into a musical. It was in 2007 when the first Million Dollar Quartet musical was staged where it was well-received by people. It continues to bring nostalgic delight to viewers of all ages as it brings back good memories and introduces the pillars of musical ingenuity to the younger generations.
Witness a spectacular play of classic rock ‘n roll and find out why the music of Elvis Prestley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash will continue to entertain all audiences.
