The Cleveland Cavaliers, also known as the Cavs, is one of the teams relegated in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association or NBA. If you will ask basketball fans around the world about Cleveland Cavaliers, they will tell you one of their franchise players – LeBron James left them several years ago.

The Cavs achieved success before LeBron James arrived in the team in 2003. Before that, they have Mark Price, Austin Carr, Walt Frazier and Nate Thurmond to make this team one of the contenders in the eastern conference of the NBA. The team started as an expansion team in 1970. In only took them 6 years before they reached their first of the 18 playoff appearances. The 1975-76 season was also a successful one in which they reach the Eastern Conference finals and lost to the mighty Boston Celtics.

One of the greatest moments in NBA history was the playoff series in which the Cavs faced Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls team in the 1989 NBA playoffs. If you will watch various NBA greatest moments, this is the game in which Michael Jordan elevated his greatness through his clutch game – scoring a jump shot in the winding seconds of the game. What made this historic is that Jordan seemed to be hanging in the air for a very long time. The Cavs lost that game as well as the playoff series.

From 1993 up to 2003, the Cavs are always part of the cellar dweller team in which they are in the bottom of the standings. They may have Zydranaus Ilagauskus in the roster or even an aging Shawn Kemp, the Cavs struggles to reach the playoffs.

In 2003, they drafted LeBron James. This drafting marked the new era for the Cavs. Hailed as “King James“by the locals of Ohio, Cleveland Cavaliers slowly rose from being a cellar dweller team to legitimate playoff contender. From being NBA Rookie of the Year, to capturing several NBA records such as the youngest player to achieve this and that to NBA Most Valuable Player – LeBron James brought the Cavs back to dominance. In 2006-07 NBA season, he rose to the occasion in which they reached the second round of playoffs before losing to the Detroit Pistons in 7 games. The next season saw major improvement in which they captured their second Eastern Conference titles. This playoff series was marked by James scoring 25 straight points propelling them to win. This is also the season that the Cavs reached the NBA finals for the first time, but was swept by the mighty San Antonio Spurs. After this, the Cavs was a legitimate contender to the title. Player movements to surround James are made to create the right teammates for him; however, one of their biggest roadblocks was the Boston Celtics.

In 2010-11 season and after the contract of James, he left for Miami Heat – leaving the team and Ohio in anger. Also, this marked the fall of the Cavs in which they failed to reach the playoffs as well as having lost 26 times, the most in any professional and major sports in the US. James went on capturing the elusive NBA title recently (2012 season) in which he failed to do to the Cavs. Now, the Cavs are relying on their young core led by Kyrie Irving to bring back the franchise to where it should be.
