As one of the biggest rock festivals in the world, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee has brought in big names from all over the world of music. This year the festival will have Paul McCartney, Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers headlining the event. There will be more than 120 artists performing at Bonnaroo from June 13 to 16.
The partial list of the performers include: The Xx, R. Kelly, ZZ Top, Bjork, Daniel Tosh, Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne & St. Vincent, Pretty Lights, Wilco, The National, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nas and Animal Collective. The final list of performers will be announced at a later date.
Like most summer music festivals, Bonnaroo has a mix of artists and performers who represent a wide range of musical genres. The artists usually keep coming back to perform at the festival. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been here before and this year are again performing on the main stage. The legendary member of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, will be performing for the first time at the festival.
Mumford & Sons, who recently won the Grammy for Best Album, performed at the second stage (called Which Stage) in 2011. They had the stage for more than an hour and packed the fans up to the fences. Mumford was also nominated for Best Americana at the Grammy Awards. The band is noted for their performances at festivals. They will also be performing at the Sasquatch in Washington state.
Tennessee is noted for their country and Americana fans and they will be happy to know that there are a lot of country performers this year including Dwight Yoakam, Father John Misty, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Of Monsters and Men, John Fullbright, Calexico and JD McPherson.
Although there are several stages, the main stage, called What Stage, is where the headliners perform. The performances on What Stage are usually from noon to midnight, with no other concurrent performances on the other stages.
The festival is on 700 acres of land in middle Tennessee during June where the weather reaches the high 90s during the day and drops to the 70s at night. Attendees are advised to bring their sunhat as protection against sunburn and heat stroke and their ponchos for possible rain. Tornadoes occur in Tennessee at anytime of the year, but thankfully none has ever ruined the celebration at Bonnaroo.
