They are known for their extravagant concerts and their combination of many rock genres into one, their literary influences like Kafka, and their progressive views. Formed in 1994 in Devon, England, composed of Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, lead guitar, piano, keyboards, keytar), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar, harmonica) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion, synthesisers, sampling), they are Muse.

It took them a few years gaining a following before playing in London. Their self-titled 1st EP, followed by another EP, Muscle Museum EP, helped grow their popularity. The 2nd EP reached number 3 in the indie rock charts. They were signed to an American label, Maverick Records in December 1998 and released their 1st album, Showbiz, in 1999.

More experimentations followed in their second album, Origin of Symmetry(2001). However, disagreements with the label over the vocal style held the album from getting released in the US until 2005 after Muse was signed to Warner Bros. Absolution(2003) debuted at No. 1 in the UK with singles "Time Is Running Out", "Hysteria", and "Butterflies and Hurricanes".

The band played at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2004 which the they later described as "the best gig of our lives". They won two MTV Europe awards and an award for "Best British Live Act" at the Brit Awards. Their fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations(2006), delves into topics such as science fiction and politics. It charted at No. 1 in the UK and reached No. 9 in the US Billboard 200. Their momentum continued to grow as shown in their sold out concert at the Madison Square Garden, New York in August 2007, followed by a performance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival a month later, and a world tour. The Resistance(2009) became Muse's third No. 1 album in the UK, No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and topped the album charts in 19 countries. They played its hit single, "Uprising", at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City. The 2nd Law was released on October 2012. With fresh new inspirations still coming in, Muse still hasn't been abandoned, yet, by the Muses.
