André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu is a famous Dutch conductor and violinist. He was born on October 1, 1949 and perhaps he is most famous for creating an international revival in waltz music. He has produced many DVD's and CD's with his orchestra, the "Johann Strauss Orchestra."
André was born in the city of Maastricht which is in the Netherlands. He was one of six children and began studying violin at the tender age of 5. His entire family was musically oriented and his father was a conductor. Reiu studied at the Conservatoire Royal in Liege and at the Conservatorium Maastricht between 1968 and 1973. Later he attended the Music Academy in Brussels and studied with Andre Gertler. The Premier Prix was awarded to Andre while he was a student in Brussels.
While in the University he performed the Gold and Silver Waltz (Franz Lehar), the audience loved it and he decided to revive the world's interest in Waltz music. His style is very unique because he is very mellow and dramatic, while at the same time being a bit like a rock star. This combination makes him a favorite musician around the World.
